Digital Trends in Chemistry.
In
recent years digital trends have climaxed to the top. Almost everything has
been computerized, bringing ease of access and storage of information and
technology. The internet at the realm of it, have pushed the majority of people
to have at least a basic understanding of how to use search engines upload data
on clouds, share data with collaborators via cloud share points etc. Acquiring this set of skills regardless
of one’s field of major is a key aspect of the 21st century as this
is woodenly applicable to data and information storage, management, analysis
and interpretation in any field of study.
As
a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry the applicability and usefulness of the
internet and its key tools like Microsoft packages (office, teams, outlook),
Google (docs, scholar, one drive hang-out, classroom etc) need no second
mention, the availability of these has allowed a huge flow of synthesis in its
own respect and it doesn’t end there. Trends in the information and technology
sector are constantly on the move and for the better thus it's of paramount
importance that one follows these changes and have a better understanding as to
what has changed and what impact does it have on its applicability in their
field of major and how can one get the best out of it.
Heavily
inspired by the course I undertook during my undergraduate studies sometime in
2015, computer packages for chemistry,
the need to time and again to include and apply ICT’s keeps on raging thus I would encourage all chemists that in the event of a slightest
opportunity that comes welcome it with open arms as it comes handy in purifying digital skills and cashing in on valuable experience within the digital world and further skill
development.
