 In the heart of Southern Africa, where the climate crisis meets centuries of structural inequality, a new vision is rising. At the Black Coalition for Diversity (BCD), we are pioneering a bold, community-driven approach to climate adaptation, one that doesn't just respond to disaster, but redefines resilience through science, equity, and indigenous wisdom. Our new flagship initiative, Community-Centric Climate Adaptation, is more than a project. It is a continental call to action.

🛰 From Satellite Data to Storytelling

Using open-source GIS tools, satellite imagery, and local knowledge, we're developing high-resolution, hazard-specific climate risk profiles for some of the most vulnerable communities in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. These aren’t abstract maps. They’re living documents—tools of agency—crafted in partnership with the very people they serve.

📡 Early Warning Systems That Speak the Language of the People

We're co-designing accessible dashboards and scenario planning tools with rural and peri-urban communities, enabling them to anticipate floods, droughts, and fires in real time. Technology alone isn’t enough; our tools are culturally grounded and user-friendly, built for local relevance, not just global compliance.

Too often, traditional ecological knowledge is sidelined in research. We're flipping the script.
